The Siren’s Plait is a complicated hairstyle worn among unmarried women in the Eversea region, though it is sometimes seen in the other territories.

In the Eversea region, it is tradition for the women to grow their hair and never cut it until after their wedding day. The hair is worn in the siren’s plait until it is cut, and unmarried women gather in groups once a week to assist each other in the management of this hairstyle.

After the plait is cut, a woman will create a smaller version from a single lock of their own hair, which is presented to their husband. He will wear this token around his wrist for good luck at sea. This practice derives from a belief that true sirens will see the braid upon a man’s wrist, and know that he is claimed by “another siren”, leaving him alone.
